PARIS — Today, Deputy Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas concluded a trip to Paris where he participated in the G6 Ministerial and met with international counterparts to discuss a range of shared security-related priorities, including foreign terrorist travel to and from Syria and counterterrorism efforts.
During the G6 meetings, Deputy Secretary Mayorkas met with international counterparts from Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Poland, Spain, Turkey and the United Kingdom to reiterate the key link between the United States’ security and that of our international partners, including the collective concern of foreign terrorist travel to and from Syria and efforts to counter violent extremism.
Deputy Secretary Mayorkas also met bilaterally with Turkish Interior Minister Efkan Ala and French Interior Minister Bernard Cazeneuve to emphasize the importance of international cooperation for achieving our common security interests.
The Department of Homeland Security is committed to engaging with our global friends and allies to ensure our collective security. Earlier this year, Deputy Secretary Mayorkas traveled to Spain, Greece, and Belgium to meet with international counterparts and discuss the shared concern of foreign terrorist travel to and from Syria and efforts to counter violent extremism. In February, Secretary of Homeland Security Jeh Johnson traveled to Poland to meet with his European counterparts and discuss common efforts to preventing foreign terrorist travel.
Earlier this week, Deputy Secretary Mayorkas traveled to London, where he met with United Kingdom counterparts to discuss collective efforts to combat terrorism, enhance aviation security, and secure cyberspace at the United States-United Kingdom Joint Contact Group Plenary. While in London, Deputy Secretary Mayorkas also delivered remarks on a variety of homeland security-related issues at the London School of Economics.
