Ceremony Held at Arlington National Cemetery

WASHINGTON—Secretary of Homeland Security John F. Kelly today joined President Donald J. Trump at the Armed Forces Full Honor Wreath Ceremony for the 2017 National Memorial Day Observance at Arlington National Cemetery to honor America's fallen military service members. The U.S. Army Military District of Washington conducted a Presidential Armed Forces Full Honors Wreath-Laying Ceremony at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. This was followed by an observance program hosted by the Department of Defense in the cemetery's Memorial Amphitheater.

“On Memorial Day, our country recognizes the more than one million men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice while carrying out their duties in our armed forces. As it was on May 15, when we honored our law enforcement fallen, it is a day to honor the memory of our brave men and women in uniform who dedicated their lives to training tirelessly, serving selflessly, and dying to protect our freedoms, keep us safe from harm, and secure our nation,” said Secretary Kelly.

“Throughout our nation’s history, our Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen, Marines, and Coast Guardsmen have valiantly responded when called to duty. They have run toward the danger when others have retreated.

“We are thankful to our men and women in uniform—past and present—for putting themselves in harm’s way to protect our nation and our people.”
