Privacy Policy Instruction 047-01-010 SSN Collection and Use Reduction

This policy instruction:

1. Requires the elimination of the unnecessary collection, use, maintenance, and dissemination of the Social Security number (SSN) by DHS programs, systems, and forms; or
2. Requires the use of a unique alternative identifier to the SSN; or
3. Requires the use of privacy-enhancing SSN alternatives when there are technological, legal, or regulatory limitations to eliminating the SSN.
