New Jersey Man Sentenced for Drug Distribution, Firearms Charges Following HSI, DEA Newark Investigation

Release Date: July 11, 2024

NEWARK, N.J. — A federal investigation led to a 10-year sentence for a New Jersey man who illegally possessed methamphetamine. Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) Newark and DEA Newark led the investigation with support from the Neptune Township Police Department.

Dywann Pugh, 44, of Asbury Park, previously pleaded guilty to one count of possession with the intent to distribute 500 grams or more of a mixture and substance containing methamphetamine and one count of unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition by a convicted felon. U.S. District Judge Zahid N. Quraishi imposed a 120-month sentence July 10 at the U.S. District Court for the District of New Jersey in Trenton.

“This sentence demonstrates how HSI Newark leverages every resource and partnership to rid our communities of the drug traffickers that plague them,” said HSI Newark acting Special Agent in Charge William S. Walker. “We are committed to the health and safety of the American public.”

According to the investigation, on Nov. 21, 2022, law enforcement executed search warrants at Pugh’s residence and discovered over 3 kilograms of methamphetamine; over 3 kilograms of cocaine; approximately 150 grams of fentanyl; approximately $19,000 in cash; and various drug distribution paraphernalia, including a pill press and approximately 7 kilograms of cutting agents used in connection with the processing of drugs. Law enforcement also recovered a Hi-Point .380-caliber pistol loaded with six rounds of ammunition.

In addition to the prison term, Pugh was sentenced to five years of supervised release. He was previously ordered to forfeit the firearm and ammunition that law enforcement seized.
