Northridge Earthquake, Calif., January 17, 1994 -- FEMA and local agencies provide a variety of emergency services to the disaster stricken area. Approximately 114,000 residential and commercial structures were damaged and 72 deaths were attributed to the earthquake. Damage costs were estimated at $25 billion.
