In an effort to build and enhance a robust culture of leadership and to understand the critical role leadership plays in our ability to protect and secure the homeland, then-Acting Secretary Duke designated October 1, 2017 through September 30, 2018 as “DHS Leadership Year.”
DHS Leadership Year is a year-long campaign that highlights the important principles and values that characterize good leadership. Throughout the year DHS senior leadership will communicate the practices, behaviors, and results we expect from leaders at all levels across the Department. They will also promote the importance of selecting individuals with the right leadership skills and capabilities and then developing leaders continuously throughout their careers.
