WASHINGTON—Nearly ten years after the 9/11 terrorist attacks, Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano today recognized outstanding Department of Homeland Security (DHS) employees and key state, local and private sector partners as part of the Faces of Homeland Security: Heroes on the Front Lines initiative. The 27 selected heroes represent the tradition of service that has been central to building a stronger, more secure and more resilient homeland.
“Homeland security begins with hometown security, and we all have a vital role to play,” said Secretary Napolitano. “There is no question that today, 10 years after 9/11, we are stronger and more resilient than ever before. I am proud to pay tribute to the brave men and women who work to protect America everyday on the front lines.”
The 27 heroes announced today are an example of the thousands of dedicated personnel who work on the front lines everyday to protect America at home and abroad, and work at every level to prevent terrorism, secure our borders, enforce our immigration laws, secure cyberspace and ensure resilience to disasters.
The Faces of Homeland Security: Heroes on the Front Lines initiative also recognizes the Department’s federal, state, local, tribal, territorial, and private sector partners who are also on the front lines every day – spotlighting examples of strong partnerships that are essential to keeping our communities safe.
