ANKARA, Turkey—Acting Secretary of Homeland Security Rand Beers today met with Dutch Minister of Security and Justice Ivo Opstelten and Dutch National Coordinator for Security and Counterterrorism Dick Schoof in Belgium and traveled to Turkey to meet with counterparts to discuss homeland security-related priorities and collective efforts to ensure our common security interests.
“The Department of Homeland Security continues to collaborate with our international partners towards our common goals to combat and mitigate threats we all face,” said Acting Secretary Beers. “We must continue to work together to combat these threats and the larger issue of transnational criminal activity, and enhance our common efforts to increase security for the United States and our partners around the world.”
In Ankara, Acting Secretary Beers met with Turkish Minister of Interior Muammer Güler and other Turkish officials to discuss the Department of Homeland Security’s collaboration with international partners on shared security goals. Last year, DHS established a full-time DHS/U.S. Customs and Border Protection Attaché at the U.S. Embassy in Ankara to work with Turkish counterparts to address shared threats.
Yesterday, Acting Secretary Beers was in Belgium where he joined U.S. Deputy Attorney General James M. Cole in Brussels to participate in a Ministerial meeting with European counterparts on Foreign Fighters in Syria.
