BERLIN—Closing out a multiple day trip to discuss security issues with international partners, today Acting Secretary of Homeland Security Rand Beers traveled to Germany where he met with German Interior Ministry State Secretary Klaus-Dieter Fritsche and other German officials to discuss homeland security-related priorities and collective efforts to ensure our common security interests.
“Today, threats transcend national borders, impacting the security and economic prosperity of the entire international community,” said Acting Secretary Beers. “The United States and Germany are strong partners in our joint efforts to develop a global approach to the challenges and threats we all face, while facilitating trade and travel between our countries.”
The Department of Homeland Security’s U.S. Customs and Border Protection partners with Germany’s Automated and Biometrics-Supported Border Controls Plus program to allow vetted, trusted travelers expedited entry through Global Entry kiosks in the United States, allowing us to focus our resources on individuals more likely to pose a risk while facilitating the flow of trade and travel.
During this trip, Acting Secretary Beers traveled to Belgium to participate in a Ministerial meeting with European counterparts on Foreign Fighters in Syria, where he also met with counterparts from Australia, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Spain, Sweden, the United Kingdom and the European Union. Yesterday, Acting Secretary Beers was in Turkey where he met with Turkish officials to discuss common security issues.
