“One year ago today a cherished Boston event on a special Boston day was shattered by tragedy.  In reaction to that tragedy we saw “Boston Strong” – the courage and dedication of first responders and numerous volunteers who rushed toward danger to help those injured, and a community emboldened in the face of attack.  Today we remember the victims of the attack.  We also pay tribute to a city and a community that refused to bend to fear and injury, and has only grown prouder and stronger in reaction to the attack.

The Department of Homeland Security looks forward to supporting next week’s Boston Marathon, and working closely with our state and local partners to provide security for the event.  This week and next, the public should take notice that last year’s effort to damage Boston and its cherished annual event has had the opposite effect.”
