Chad Plantz

Chad Plantz is responsible for managing, directing and coordinating the investigative activities of HSI’s 235 domestic field offices by ensuring implementation and adherence to investigative governance, overseeing all major enforcement initiatives and deconflicting field operations.
In this role, Mr. Plantz is responsible for the operational and administrative oversight of over 6,900 special agents, 1,000 criminal analysts and additional support personnel assigned to HSI’s 30 Special Agent in Charge (SAC) offices.
Prior to his assignment, Mr. Plantz served as the Special Agent in Charge for San Diego, CA. In this position, he managed law enforcement and professional personnel responsible for HSI’s mission across San Diego and the Imperial Valley, as well as at two of the world’s busiest international land border ports of entry (POEs) and an extensive international maritime border.
Previously, Mr. Plantz served as the Deputy Special Agent in Charge (DSAC) in Tucson, Arizona, which comprised of four field offices along the Southern Arizona border. In this role, he was responsible for the investigation of cross-border criminal activity occurring at seven land POEs and three international airports. He has held numerous leadership positions at HSI Headquarters within the National Security and Emergency Management Divisions.
Mr. Plantz is a member of the Senior Executive Service. He began his law enforcement career in 1996 as a U.S. Border Patrol Agent in Campo, California. In 2000, he became a special agent with the former U.S. Customs Service in Douglas, Arizona. Mr. Plantz holds a bachelor’s degree from West Virginia University and a Master of Science degree in Criminal Justice from the University of Baltimore.
