EAGLE PASS, Texas — A Mexican national was sentenced to 235 months in federal prison for conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute methamphetamine following an investigation conducted by Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) and U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP).
Braulio Reyes, 27, of Agujita, Coahuila, Mexico, was sentenced July 12. He pleaded guilty Feb. 26, 2021.
“Methamphetamine is a dangerous synthetic drug that has an incredibly destructive impact on our communities,” said HSI San Antonio Special Agent in Charge Craig Larrabee. “HSI remains committed to working with our law enforcement partners to ensure South Texas communities remain safe and healthy.”
According to court documents, on Nov. 12, 2020, Reyes attempted to enter the United States through the Eagle Pass Port of Entry pedestrian lane. CBP discovered Reyes had several packages strapped to his waist containing 3.45 kilograms of methamphetamine hydrochloride with a purity level of 100%.
Assistant U.S. Attorneys for the Western District of Texas Rex Beasley and Holly Pavlinski prosecuted the case.
