HSI Nogales Case Results in 42-Month Prison Sentence for Arizona Man Convicted of Child Sexual Abuse Material Offenses

Release Date: August 5, 2024

NOGALES, Ariz. — A Tucson area man was sentenced in mid-July to 42 months in prison followed by lifetime supervised release for his involvement in child sexual abuse material offenses. Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) conducted the investigation in this case.

“Our community is safer today with this child predator behind bars,” said HSI Arizona Special Agent in Charge Francisco B. Burrola. “HSI’s unwavering commitment to protecting children and investigating predators is proven in this case once again.”

Enrique Adrian Yanez, 36, of Tucson, will also be required to register as a sex offender upon release. Yanez pleaded guilty Feb. 29 to one count of knowing access of child pornography.

During the summer of 2022, HSI special agents learned that Yanez was distributing child sexual abuse material through a peer-to-peer file-sharing network. After HSI executed a search warrant on Yanez’s residence, agents located additional child sexual abuse material on a computer belonging to Yanez.

This case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in May 2006 by the Department of Justice to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse. Led by the U.S. attorney’s offices and the Criminal Division's Child Exploitation and Obscenity Section, Project Safe Childhood marshals federal, state and local resources to locate, apprehend and prosecute individuals who sexually exploit children, and to identify and rescue victims.

Assistant U.S. Attorney for the District of Arizona in Tucson Nathaniel J. Walters handled the prosecution.
