IPR Center Announces New Director

WASHINGTON — Ivan J. Arvelo has been appointed as the new director of the National Intellectual Property Rights Coordination Center (IPR Center), Executive Associate Director for Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) Katrina W. Berger announced today. The IPR Center, which stands at the forefront of the U.S. government's response to global intellectual property theft and trade law enforcement, collaborates with federal agencies, international law enforcement, academia and private sector partners.

“For more than two decades, the National Intellectual Property Rights Coordination Center has led the government's actions to combat global intellectual property theft and enforce trade laws,” said Berger. “The center’s mission to address the theft of innovation that threatens economic stability and jeopardizes public health and safety is crucial. Ivan J. Arvelo’s distinguished career and exceptional leadership make him ideally suited to advance this mission. His proven expertise will drive the IPR Center’s efforts to protect innovation and ensure public safety.”

“I am deeply honored to take on this new role as director of the IPR Center,” said Arvelo. “The center’s mission is vital in addressing the challenges of intellectual property theft and trade fraud. I am eager to collaborate with our dedicated team and partners across federal agencies, international organizations and the private sector to strengthen our initiatives. In his new role, Arvelo will lead the center’s efforts to safeguard national security and public health, working alongside key partners such as HSI Deputy Director Mike Ball, FBI Deputy Director Anthony Sankey and CBP Deputy Director Brandon Lord.

The IPR Center was established to address the theft of innovation that poses a risk to economic stability and public health. The center is instrumental in developing initiatives, coordinating enforcement actions and sharing information related to intellectual property theft and trade fraud.
