ATLANTA — Steven Schrank, a 25-year law enforcement veteran, was recently selected as special agent in charge of Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) Atlanta.
Schrank, a New Jersey native, leads a robust team of roughly 300 special agents, intelligence analysts, task force officers, and support personnel across eight offices in Georgia and Alabama. Under his leadership, HSI Atlanta tackles a wide range of complex investigations targeting transnational criminal organizations, safeguarding national security, and upholding public safety in the region.
Before assuming his current role, Schrank served as deputy special agent in charge for HSI Seattle, overseeing all investigative operations in the Pacific Northwest, including Washington, Idaho, Oregon, and Alaska. At HSI Seattle, he directed a diverse workforce of approximately 300 employees across 15 offices, addressing critical issues such as drug trafficking, human smuggling, and financial crimes.
Schrank’s extensive career includes a distinguished tenure at HSI Headquarters as Division Chief for the Transnational Organized Crime Division. In this capacity, he led key initiatives including the Financial Crime Unit, Contraband Smuggling Unit, Identity & Benefit Fraud Unit, Labor Exploitation Unit, and Bulk Cash Smuggling Center, strengthening HSI’s capacity to combat complex criminal networks. He also played a pivotal role as Assistant Special Agent in Charge of HSI New York’s globally renowned El Dorado Financial Crimes Task Force, managing a multidisciplinary team from over 30 federal, state, and local agencies to disrupt international money laundering schemes and related crimes.
Throughout his career, Schrank has demonstrated leadership in high-profile positions, including Deputy Chief of the New York Drug Enforcement Strike Force, Assistant Special Agent in Charge of Contraband Smuggling, and a Group Supervisor for units specializing in money laundering, financial fraud, and child exploitation.
A proud veteran of the U.S. Coast Guard, he also holds a degree from the American University in Washington, D.C. He is an accomplished endurance athlete who regularly participates in marathons and triathlons and enjoys boating, skiing, and outdoor adventures. Schrank has over twenty years in federal law enforcement and presently serves as a member of the Senior Executive Service.
