The Acting Secretary released the following statement commending the men and women of the U.S. Secret Service for their efforts to secure the 59th Presidential Inauguration:
“This year, the Department of Homeland Security’s U.S. Secret Service executed another successful National Special Security Event (NSSE) — the 59th Presidential Inauguration. Facing an unprecedented security environment, the USSS leveraged its strong partnerships with FBI, FEMA, Metropolitan Police Department (MPD), U.S. Capitol Police, U.S. Park Police and dozens of other federal, state, and local law enforcement and public safety offices, and ensured seamless coordination across every level of government to implement its operational security plan. Of note, the Department of Defense provided thousands of National Guard personnel who deployed to Washington, D.C. to assist with NSSE security efforts. The professionalism and devotion to duty displayed by all those involved in implementing this NSSE ensured a safe and secure Inauguration, and peaceful transition of power.”
