During National Police Week, the Department of Homeland Security pays special tribute to the heroic law enforcement officers who lost their lives protecting us all. We honor them this week, yet we remember them always. We are forever indebted to those who serve and protect – those we have lost and those who continue to serve.
Police Week is a special occasion each year when our law enforcement family gathers across the country to grieve our fallen colleagues and move forward together, strengthened by the bonds of service to the noble mission of law enforcement. During this week of remembrance and mourning, DHS is reflecting on their sacrifices through a series of memorial events. Below, we share moments from this week’s commemorative events.

National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund Holds Annual Candlelight Vigil
Tens of thousands gathered on the National Mall in Washington, DC to join the National Law Enforcement Officer Memorial’s annual Candlelight Vigil. The Federal Protective Service shared a commemorative Police Week video, featuring messages from Department leadership and a special wreath-laying ceremony. The ceremony honored Lowery Ware, Sr. – the first FPS officer lost in two decades – who died of COVID-19.
