WASHINGTON – From December 7th through 10th, Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro N. Mayorkas will travel to Quito, Ecuador and Bogotá, Colombia to meet with senior government counterparts, Department and other U.S. government personnel, and members of civil society. In Ecuador, Secretary Mayorkas will explore opportunities for increased bilateral cooperation with respect to cybersecurity, countering transnational organized crime, strengthening law enforcement information sharing, and regional migration management.
In Colombia, Secretary Mayorkas will engage senior officials regarding priorities laid out in the Los Angeles Declaration, including addressing irregular migration flows across the Darien Gap, increased information sharing, and promoting regular and lawful pathways for migration. Additionally, Secretary Mayorkas will meet with local thought leaders to hear their perspectives on current challenges facing Colombia, particularly with respect to irregular migration.
