These are uncertain times…there is no doubt about it. However, it’s also true that there have been uncertain times in our past, including for our ancestors, and there will be uncertain times in our future, including for the generations that come after us. What will set us apart and allow us to thrive is to move beyond our unsettled feelings. We all know that feeling that comes when we are embarking on a new adventure, a new job, a new relationship, a new strategy and plans. We hesitate a bit, questioning ourselves, and sometimes don’t even show up as our authentic selves, because we’re not as confident as we would be if we were in a well-established career, long-term partnership, or had clearly defined plans with metrics and measures in place to let us know we’re headed in the right direction. I get it…I’ve been there.

There’s a ton of research out there that shows you just need to take that first, focused step toward the outcome you’re striving to achieve in order to overcome your fear of feeling exposed and helpless. Once that first step is taken, it always seems to get easier to take the next step, even when we stumble a bit. It gets even easier when we work with others to bring our plans to fruition. Sometimes we just need to remind ourselves that we’re more prepared for these uncertain times than we realize, more focused than we anticipated, and more ready than we believe. I say—bring it on…we’re ready!
