Message from Secretary Mayorkas on 9/11

Release Date: September 11, 2024

Today, we pay special memory to the tragic terrorist attack on our nation 23 years ago, and we honor the thousands of lives lost on that day and in the ensuing days, weeks, months, and years.

While the pain of 9/11 endures, our nation’s resolve does too. Each of you, in your dedication to our Department and its most fundamental mission of securing our homeland, embodies that resolve and gives it meaning and life every day.

We have made tremendous strides in combating the persistent threat of terrorism that challenges our country and many others around the world. You have achieved that progress through your talent, creativity, tireless dedication, and sacrifice. Thank you.

Thank you for honoring the lives lost on and after 9/11. Thank you for everything you do in service of our nation.

Alejandro N. Mayorkas
Secretary of Homeland Security

With honor and integrity, we will safeguard the American people, our homeland, and our values.
