The JamX 22 counter-jamming event was held at White Sands Missile Range in New Mexico from April 25-29, 2022. The event was co-hosted by DHS S&T's Office for Interoperability Technology Center and CISA's Emergency Communications Division, and continued efforts from the 2016 and 2017 First Responder Electronic Jamming Exercises.
JamX 22 continues S&T's work and findings from the 2016 and 2017 First Responder Electronic Jamming Exercises. Results from JamX 22 will help improve resilient communications training.
In the Biden-Harris Administration’s first year, DHS has made tremendous progress in its efforts to protect the American public and administer the laws of our nation. Our efforts to date have strengthened our ability to uphold our laws and our values. We have rescinded policies that do not reflect our values, brought offices back to life, issued new directives, and reconstructed entire operations in order to bolster the security of our nation and the diverse communities we serve. Much work remains, which we approach with energy and optimism.
S&T ensures that first responders and DHS can exchange information such as voice, video or data through any medium and that interoperability across agencies is paramount upon transition to broadband communications networks, including FirstNet.
Critical data is not available to all organizations (including fire, law enforcement, and EMS) responding to an emergency because the Computer-Aided-Dispatch systems that support each agency are unable to electronically exchange information. The Science and Technology Directorate (S&T) recognizes the national need for interoperability and is providing leadership to develop a viable solution. The overarching objective is to achieve a resilient public safety CAD-to-CAD ecosystem that is efficient, interoperable, and supports multi-discipline response to regional, multistate, and national events.
The scope of this Science and Technology Directorate-backed project relies on predictive analytics that gather cyber analytics to build public safety answering points threat environment situational awareness. Predictive and cyber analytics are used to improve the detection and elimination of cybersecurity attacks against current and future emergency communications systems.
Information sharing and safeguarding (IS&S) is a fundamental need of the U.S. public safety community. The community's IS&S requirements are substantial and increasing since it must respond to a wide-range of challenging, multi-agency emergencies such as opioid overdoses, school shooting incidents, and large-scale natural disasters.
DHS S&T is joining forces with the non-profit Beacon NGO to advance open source software capabilities for public safety.
DHS S&T partnered with the Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory and Think-A-Move to develop Automated Speech Recognition technology.
