In-Suit Communication Equipment
The most common way for responders to communicate while wearing PPE during an emergency scenario is through the use of in-suit communications (ISC) equipment. The DHS Science and Technology Directorate’s National Urban Security Technology Laboratory (NUSTL) conducted an operationally-oriented assessment of six ISC products based on recommendations from a focus group of emergency responders. This video summarizes results from the assessment and the responders’ feedback on each product’s overall capabilities and limitations. NUSTL manages the System Assessment and Validation for Emergency Responders (SAVER) program to inform emergency responder equipment selection and procurement decisions. Responders can access the full assessment report for more information by visiting the ISC publication page in the SAVER Document Library. (DHS Video by Science & Technology Directorate/Released)
