Report Fraud, Waste or Abuse within DHS

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Office of Inspector General (OIG) serves as an independent body to deter, identify and address fraud, abuse, mismanagement, and waste in DHS programs and operations.  Findings and recommendations issued by the OIG add value to the Department and assist the Department in fulfilling its mission and goals.

Based on the audit, investigations and inspections work, the OIG recommends ways for the Department to carry out its responsibilities in the most effective, efficient, and economical manner.

DHS employees and public are encouraged to contact the hotline to report fraud, waste, abuse and mismanagement, or other criminal or noncriminal misconduct related to the Department’s programs or operations.

Examples of allegations that should be reported to the OIG Hotline include, but are not limited to:

  • Employee Corruption involving bribery, embezzlement, espionage and smuggling;
  • DHS Program Fraud / Financial Crimes involving blackmail, contract fraud, grant fraud, immigration fraud and program theft;
  • Civil rights or civil liberties abuses involving custodial deaths, denial of rights, profiling and use of force concerns;
  • Miscellaneous criminal and non-criminal misconduct within DHS involving abuse and violence, child pornography, unauthorized use of DHS Information Technology systems, suspicious activity, ethics violations, and prohibited personnel practices such as Whistleblower retaliation.

Tips

Give as much information as possible including: names of alleged offenders, victims, witnesses, etc., and leads on any applicable data, documentation or other evidence.
