The Secretary’s Award for Volunteer Service 2016

This award recognizes significant contributions by DHS employees who serve as volunteers with non-profit or community service programs or activities. The employee’s contributions should be direct, sustained and have meaningful results for individuals or larger public good.

This year's winners are listed below, along with a description of their contributions and achievements:

For his volunteer work as co-founder and president of the "Extraordinary League of Gentlemen" a non-profit that benefits the underprivileged in the D.C. metro area through social advocacy and civic contributions.

For his extraordinary volunteerism through his Pets Providing Pedals organization that provided over 1,400 bicycles to students in Tanzania, Kenya and Zimbabwe, as their only means of transportation.

In recognition of exceptional service and support of the National Cybersecurity System volunteers who have contributed time and professional knowledge sharing, tradecraft and mentoring to grow cybersecurity awareness and expertize through an interactive cyber exercise on January 22 - 24, 2016, at the Naval Flight Academy in Pensacola, Florida.
