The Office of Homeland Security Statistics' (OHSS) mission is to foster transparency and data-driven homeland security decision-making by analyzing and disseminating timely, objective Department of Homeland Security (DHS) data and statistics.
Goals
The core goals of OHSS are to:
- Publish, maintain, and keep up to date enterprise-wide statistical standards;
- Create objective, credible, accurate, relevant, timely, and authoritative statistical homeland security data products to increase transparency for the interagency, Congress, and the public and to support evidence-based policymaking and leadership decisions; and
- Reduce the burden on DHS Components for statistical reporting.
In addition to meeting these goals, OHSS will pursue designation by the Office of Management and Budget as a Recognized Statistical Agency or Unit. Meeting the requirements for this recognition will improve reporting timeliness, increase data transparency, and reinforce DHS’s reporting credibility—critical aspects of the Department’s focus on greater openness and accountability.
Migration Analysis Center
The DHS Migration Analysis Center is the research hub located within the Office of Homeland Security Statistics. We lead research on U.S. immigration and migration-related topics. Our principal mission is the comprehensive study of migration flows and immigration policy. This includes understanding the factors that impact migration. We also research the social, economic, environmental, and demographic effects of immigration within the United States.
