The U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) in coordination with the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, Va. convened the second Regional Tabletop Exercise for Institutions of Higher Education (RTTX).
Building upon the success of the National Seminar and Tabletop Exercise (NTTX) and the inaugural 2018 Philadelphia RTTX, the 2018 Charlottesville RTTX is the second time the Department has offered this event, which brought together more than 125 leaders representing various campus functions from 33 institutions of higher education from across the Virginia area.
Focusing on a soft target incident, specifically campus unrest caused by a controversial speaker, the one-day event explored and tested the participating colleges and universities’ emergency preparedness efforts through a moderated exercise scenario and an after-action session.
