The Office for Civil Rights and Civil Liberties (CRCL) reviews and investigates civil rights and civil liberties complaints filed by the public regarding U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) policies and activities.
CRCL's Complaints Management and Adjudication Section (CMAS) leads processing for the Department's equal employment opportunity (EEO) complaints. CMAS prepares final actions on all formal EEO complaints filed by DHS employees, former employees, and applicants for employment who allege discrimination in violation of Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, the Age Discrimination in Employment Act of 1967, the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, the Equal Pay Act of 1963, the Genetic Information Nondiscrimination Act of 2008, and Executive Orders prohibiting discrimination on the bases of parental status and sexual orientation.
A clear, consistent means of reporting alleged violations by DHS employees of Violence Against Women Act's (VAWA) confidentiality provisions serves the interests of both DHS and the public. DHS has therefore established procedures for reporting alleged violations.
To ensure that privacy considerations and protections are incorporated, system operated by the Office for Civil Rights and Civil Liberties have been evaluated by the DHS Privacy Office.
