Through CAP, DHS S&T is adapting and leveraging federally funded mission-relevant technologies to enhance the operational capabilities of DHS and Homeland Security Enterprise end users.
DHS S&T works closely with the nation’s emergency response community to identify and prioritize mission capability gaps and to facilitate the rapid development of critical solutions to address responders’ everyday technology needs. These technology prototypes are operationally field tested by S&T’s National Urban Security Technology Laboratory (NUSTL).
The DHS S&T Hazard Awareness and Characterization Technology Center (HAC-TC) coordinates S&T’s efforts to understand current, emerging, and future chemical, biological, and explosive (CBE) hazards.
The capability gaps or Statements of Objectives (SOO) developed as a result of these meetings help determine how S&T engages with business, industry, innovation and academia partners, and ultimately how S&T provides first responders the tools they need to protect communities and stay safe while performing their duties.
This S&T study recommends federal agencies adopt a continuous approach to standards-based mobile app vetting by integrating vetting tools with EMM and exploring nontraditional approaches, such as app threat intelligence. These approaches would improve overall federal system mobile device and enterprise security while also enabling employees to use apps to conduct business and accomplish their organization’s mission.
