Napolitano Issues Action Directives on Cyber Security and Northern Border Strategy
U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Janet Napolitano issued a second round of action directives on cyber security and the northern border strategy. President Obama announced his intention to nominate Jane Holl Lute as Deputy Secretary for the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS). In addition, Secretary Janet Napolitano announced the following appointments for her senior staff: Noah Kroloff, Chief of Staff for Policy to the Secretary; and Jan Lesher, Chief of Staff for Operations to the Secretary.

Department of Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano issued the first Action Directives on January 21, 2009 to gather information, review existing strategies and programs, and to provide oral and written reports on the Protection mission of the Department.

After January 31, 2008 the Department of Homeland Security is ending oral declarations at the border, except in extraordinary situations and accepting a list of about two dozen types of documents at the border instead of the over 8,000 documents currently being accepted.
