The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) is committed to combating gender-based violence and integrating protections for survivors into our policies, programs, and activities. The DHS Council on Combating Gender-Based Violence (CCGBV) identifies best practices to prevent and address gender-based violence and helps implement those practices across DHS.
Public engagement is central to the CCGBV’s mission. The CCGBV holds listening sessions with various civil society groups, survivors, and other stakeholders to solicit feedback and strengthen DHS programs, and creates resources to inform the public about the various forms that GBV can take, who is affected, and how to seek help.
An executive from the Office for Civil Rights and Civil Liberties serves as a co-chair of the Council, along with up to two additional executives appointed by the Secretary of Homeland Security. The CCGBV includes members from across DHS Components and Headquarters offices.
