The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) is the largest federal law enforcement agency with approximately 80,000 law enforcement officers that carry out the Department’s missions across nine different agencies and offices.
Each day, the Department’s law enforcement officers work to safeguard the nation’s people, property, and ideals. The DHS law enforcement missions are diverse - including securing U.S. land and maritime borders; keeping terrorists and their weapons out of the United States; securing international trade and travel; enforcing criminal and civil customs, trade, and immigration laws; safeguarding the nation’s financial infrastructure; investigating transnational crime and threats; training the nation's federal law enforcement officers; protecting federal facilities, employees, and visitors; and ensuring continuity of government operations.
Through engagement with the public and strong partnerships across federal, state, local, tribal, territorial, and international stakeholders, DHS law enforcement strives to ensure the safety and security of every community.
