DHS Launches Technologist Hiring Initiative to Improve User Experience for General Public
WASHINGTON – The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) today announced a major new hiring initiative to transform customer experience (CX) and improve service delivery. DHS has launched a Department-wide focus on CX under President Biden's Executive Order 14058 "Transforming Federal Customer Experience and Service Delivery to Rebuild Trust in Government." The goal is to hire hundreds of mission-driven technologists with product management and customer experience expertise through the largest hiring initiative in any federal agency.

DHS Issues Regulation to Preserve and Fortify DACA

DHS Announces Funding Allocations for FY 2022 Preparedness Grants
Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro N. Mayorkas announced final allocations for $550 million for seven Fiscal Year 2022 competitive preparedness grant programs. These allocations, together with the almost $1.5 billion in non-competitive grant funding announced earlier this year, total more than $2 billion in FY 2022 to help prepare our nation against man-made threats and natural disasters.

Four Guatemalan Nationals Indicted by Joint Task Force Alpha and Arrested as Part of Takedown of Deadly Human Smuggling Network Based in Guatemala
On Tuesday, extensive coordination and cooperation efforts between United States and Guatemalan law enforcement authorities culminated in the Guatemalan National Civil Police (PNC) conducting a significant enforcement operation to disrupt and dismantle a transnational human smuggling organization. This operation included the arrest of four alleged human smugglers who have been indicted in the United States.

Secretary Mayorkas Extends Temporary Protected Status for Syrians in the United States
The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) published a Federal Register notice extending for an additional 18 months Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for eligible Syrians already in the United States, from Oct. 1, 2022, to March 31, 2024, due to ongoing armed conflict and extraordinary and temporary conditions in Syria that prevent individuals from safely returning. In addition, TPS was redesignated for the same reason, now allowing Syrians residing in the United States as of July 28, 2022 to be eligible for TPS.

On June 17, Acting Assistant Secretary Gary Rasicot of the Department of Homeland Security’s Countering Weapons of Mass Destruction Office (CWMD) traveled to Columbus, Ohio, for a series of meetings with state and local leaders on the Ohio BioWatch Program, and on June 16, CWMD’s Associate Deputy Assistant Secretary (ADAS) for Operations Support traveled to Birmingham to meet with key partners supporting the city of Birmingham, Alabama with the 2022 World Games. These meetings are part of a series of state, local, tribal, and territorial stakeholder engagements CWMD is conducting across the United States to discuss chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear, and health security risks.
