The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Federal Law Enforcement Advisory Board—a panel of federal law enforcement officers led by Law Enforcement Advisor to the Secretary Charles Marino—held its first quarterly meeting today. The Board, created in April, is charged with advising DHS Secretary Janet Napolitano on homeland security issues that affect the law enforcement community.
“Close coordination between DHS and its federal law enforcement partners is essential to securing the country,” said Secretary Napolitano. “The unique insights and expertise of the Advisory Board will be a valuable resource as we work together to protect the American people.”
Comprised of the executive board of the Federal Law Enforcement Officers Association (FLEOA) and representatives of the National Treasury Employees Union and the National Border Patrol Council, the Advisory Board will advise the Secretary on a wide range of homeland security-related law enforcement training, operations, and policy activities.
“I thank Secretary Napolitano for convening this federal law enforcement stakeholder Advisory Board,” said FLEOA President Jon Adler. “By bringing together the different organizations that represent federal law enforcement, she recognizes the real value of the boots-on-the-ground perspective."
FLEOA represents more than 23,000 federal law enforcement officials including members of all DHS federal law enforcement components.
Charles Marino comes to the Secretary’s office from the U.S. Secret Service where he served in the Presidential Protective Division, the New York Field Office and the Office of Government and Public Affairs.
