“On July 21-22, Secretary of Homeland Security Janet Napolitano and Assistant Secretary for International Affairs Alan Bersin will travel to Monterey, Calif. to host the first Five Country Ministerial meeting with international counterparts from Australia, Canada, New Zealand, and the United Kingdom. During the meeting, they plan to discuss further collaboration in national security, law enforcement, cybersecurity, the protection of critical infrastructure, information sharing, and countering violent extremism.

On July 23-24, Secretary Napolitano will travel to Matamoros, Tamaulipas, Mexico and Mexico City, Mexico. On July 23, Secretary Napolitano, U.S. Customs and Border Protection Acting Commissioner Thomas Winkowski, and Assistant Secretary Bersin will meet with Mexican Secretary of the Interior Miguel Ángel Osorio Chong and local law enforcement officials in Matamoros to discuss border security operations and the ongoing partnership and cooperation between the United States and Mexico to ensure a safe and secure border region, which is critical to both nations’ economic competitiveness and national security, as well as enforcement efforts to detect and confront smuggling activities and transnational criminal organizations.

On July 24, Secretary Napolitano will meet with members of President Enrique Peña Nieto’s cabinet in Mexico City to discuss bi-national efforts to facilitate legitimate trade and travel, enhance information sharing and continue efforts to ensure a more safe, secure and resilient global supply chain.”
