WASHINGTON – On March 28, 2022, Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro N. Mayorkas held a virtual meeting with Australian Minister of Home Affairs Karen Andrews to discuss continued cooperation between the United States and Australia on efforts to increase cybersecurity preparedness and combat violent extremism. Secretary Mayorkas and Minister Andrews emphasized the importance of continued collaboration across shared cybersecurity priorities and discussed CISA’s Shields Up campaign, which provides resources for organizations of every size to prepare for potentially disruptive cyber incidents. The Secretary and the Minister discussed the increased importance of reporting potential intrusions and continuing to share timely and actionable information with allies and partners during this period of heightened risk.
Secretary Mayorkas and Minister Andrews also discussed ways to protect communities from violent extremism, including by remaining vigilant, sharing information and intelligence, and exchanging best practices. Further, the Secretary and the Minister discussed potential areas for future collaboration on additional shared security priorities, including those related to countering malign foreign influence. The U.S. and Australian governments will continue making progress across these critical lines of effort bilaterally and through the Five Country Ministerial.
