DHS Juneteenth Flag Raising Ceremony

Event Date: June 18, 2024 at 9:00AM ET to 9:30PM ET

On Tuesday, June 18, 2024, the Department will celebrate its inaugural DHS Juneteenth Flag-Raising Ceremony, hosted by DHS Blacks in Government (BIG).

Secretary Mayorkas, National BIG President Shirley Jones, Esq., and other senior leaders will participate in this remarkable ceremony. A blend of the words 'June' and 'nineteenth,' Juneteenth commemorates the day in 1865 when the last group of enslaved Black Americans in the U.S. were freed, two and a half years after the signing of the Emancipation Proclamation.
