The Department of Homeland Security (Department or DHS) is committed to reducing emissions and increasing resilience in order to meet the challenges of a changing climate while continuing to achieve mission requirements. Development of a Sustainability Plan will allow the Department to create a DHS priority actions roadmap toward Executive Order (EO) 14057, Catalyzing Clean Energy Industries and Jobs Through Federal Sustainability, goals and showcase our achievements to date. DHS’s responsibilities toward sustainability are twofold: (1) enhance resilience and adaptation to climate-related disruptions; and (2) increase environmental stewardship to mitigate and reduce the impact of climate change. DHS is an environmental leader in the Federal Government and established ambitious goals to decrease greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and increase Department-wide efforts by expanding its inventory of sustainable buildings, increasing energy efficiency, committing to net zero-emission vehicle transition, and conserving water.
