Artificial Intelligence Use Case Inventory Library

The Full DHS AI Use Case Inventory is provided below in a downloadable format. DHS provides this inventory of unclassified and non-sensitive AI use cases within DHS in accordance with the Advancing American AI Act (December 2022) and Executive Orders 13960 Promoting the Use of Trustworthy Artificial Intelligence in the Federal Government (December 2020) and 14110 Safe, Secure, and Trustworthy Development and Use of Artificial Intelligence (October 2023).

The Simplified DHS AI Use Case Inventory provides a streamlined overview of each inventoried AI use case in website format, as well as additional details about face recognition/face capture AI use cases and some more information about M-24-10 compliance. DHS has published the inventory since 2022, with one main update per year and other revisions as needed. The Office of Management and Budget (OMB) issues guidance annually for the AI Use Case Inventory, and DHS updates its inventory accordingly.

The 2024 update of the DHS AI Use Case Inventory reflects significant changes in format and information requirements directed by the OMB Guidance for 2024 Agency Artificial Intelligence Reporting Per EO 14110 (August 2024). These changes include more details about use case data, infrastructure, and risk management. Specifically, the 2024 DHS Use Case Inventory identifies use cases considered potentially impacting safety and/or rights of the public and provides certain risk management information if such use cases are deployed.

This Inventory Library also contains previous versions of the inventory from 2022 and 2023. Those versions include some incomplete or limited information about use cases, including use cases that were never ultimately developed. The 2024 update of the DHS AI Use Case Inventory is a more comprehensive and completed inventory of AI use cases within DHS.
