The GMO helps agencies at all levels of government – federal, state, local, tribal, and territorial – increase their geospatial capabilities and capacity to support homeland security and national preparedness. Our support spans prevention, protection, mitigation, response, and recovery missions.
To aid in mission planning, rehearsal, and execution, the GMO identifies and coordinates the following:
- Geospatial stakeholders
- Geospatial data
- Geospatial capabilities
- Geospatial training procedures and resources
- Best practices and innovations in geospatial mission support
In this role, the office engages across the Homeland Security Enterprise to support missions under the Stafford Act, the National Response Framework (NRF), and Presidential Policy Directives (PPD-8 and the 2024 National Security Memorandum on Critical Infrastructure Security and Resilience). This includes stakeholders and actors representing the Emergency Support Functions, Joint Field Offices, Fusion Centers and Emergency Operations Centers, the disaster preparedness exercise and evaluation community, and those involved in other NRF missions.
