The U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) uses commercial off-the-shelf electronic discovery (eDiscovery) software tools to aid in the collection of existing departmental records and to facilitate the review and production of electronically stored information (ESI), such as emails, computer files, and databases. This Privacy Impact Assessment (PIA) Update discusses the Department’s use of this technology for the purposes of internal investigations, complaint processing, Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) or Privacy Act (PA) requests, research, and other Departmental issues and requirements.

The United States Secret Service (USSS or Secret Service) Use of Force reporting application system, hereafter called eForce, allows USSS law enforcement personnel to input incident data when an agency officer or agent uses any level of force beyond compliant handcuffing, verbal commands, or de-escalation techniques.

DHS/CBP/PIA-007 Electronic System for Travel Authorization
The Electronic System for Travel Authorization (ESTA) is an application and screening system used to determine whether citizens and nationals from countries participating in the Visa Waiver Program (VWP) are eligible to travel to the United States. The U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS), U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) is publishing this Privacy Impact Assessment (PIA) update for ESTA to provide notice and assess the privacy risks associated with recent enhancements to ESTA, including (1) sharing national identifier numbers received from ESTA applicants with the country that issued the identification numbers, to obtain information about the ESTA applicant as part of the International Biometric Information Sharing (IBIS) Program; and (2) updates to the ESTA mobile application. DHS/ALL/PIA-066 DHS Employee Assistance Program (EAP)
Each Federal Executive Branch agency is required to have an Employee Assistance Program (EAP), which is a voluntary, confidential program that helps employees and their family members work through various life challenges that may adversely affect job performance, health, and personal well-being. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) EAP services include assessment, counseling, and referrals for employees and family members with personal or work-related concerns such as job stress, financial issues, legal matters, family problems, office conflicts, and alcohol and substance abuse disorders. EAP assistance may be sought by the employee, by a family member, or at the recommendation of an employee’s supervisor.

DHS/CBP/PIA-018 Aircraft Systems
The U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) employs several types of aircraft, including manned helicopters, fixed-wing aircraft, and Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) for border surveillance and law enforcement purposes. These aircraft may be equipped with video, radar, and sensor technologies to assist CBP in patrolling the border, conducting surveillance for law enforcement investigations or tactical operations, or gathering data to assist in disaster relief and emergency response.
