Science and Technology Collection

The DHS Science and Technology Directorate (S&T) is the Department’s primary research and development arm and manages science and technology research, from development through transition, for the Department's operational components and first responders.

    The Department of Homeland Security Science and Technology Directorate (S&T) is funding Higher Dimension Materials, Inc. (HDM), and the North Carolina State University Textile Protect and Comfort Center (TPACC) to identify, test and select the most appropriate fabric and supporting materials to incorporate into an enhanced glove design.

    This report documents the Advanced Multi-threat Base Ensemble for Responders (AMBER) research conducted by the Textile Protection and Comfort Center (T-PACC) within the College of Textiles at North Carolina State University (NC State) between September 2014 and December 2017. The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Science and Technology Directorate (S&T)  sponsored T-PACC to develop an advanced multi-threat garment for first responders.

  • Kentucky Dam Safety Project – Reducing Unknown Risks in Critical Infrastructure Fact Sheet

    The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Science and Technology Directorate (S&T), along with FEMA and the DHS Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA), is partnering with the Kentucky Division of Water and private consulting partner Stantec Consulting Services, Inc. to investigate new and emerging technologies in dam-related flood monitoring and warning to help protect lives and the nation’s critical infrastructure, while reducing the cost of such a disaster if it were to occur.

    Constellation for Incident Management (Constellation), an emergency data exchange language (EDXL)-compliant mobile command and control software developed by Haystax Technology, was evaluated during the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Science and Technology Directorate (S&T) Urban Operational Experimentation (OpEx) event hosted by the National Urban Security Technology Laboratory (NUSTL) on January 25, 2017.
