Under the direction of the DHS Science and Technology Directorate (S&T), JHU/APL executed a demonstration and evaluation of a prototype datacasting system installed at the offices of Houston Public Media (Public TV Broadcasting Station KUHT) and operated by the University of Houston OEM in Houston, Texas. From Feb 9 to 11, 2016, a team sponsored by DHS S&T and led by JHU/APL, successfully conducted a first-of-its-kind test of ad hoc hybrid architectures to provide backhaul for datacasting. A PW deployable LTE system and a datacasting system (installed at KUHT in July 2015 and expanded for the February 2016 tests) were tested separately. These systems were configured to operate over a number of local wireless networks, including commercial networks and the Harris County LTE Band 14 Public Safety Network, in order to create an end-to-end capability to collect data and real-time video in the field, and subsequently datacast it to first responders.
