SAVER Project: Personal Radiation Detectors (PRDs) and Spectroscopic PRDs

Personal radiation detectors (PRDs) are small electronic devices worn by emergency responders. These devices alert the wearer to slight changes in the background radiation level for the purpose of detecting and interdicting the illicit movement of radioactive material. Some PRDs, known as spectroscopic personal radiation detectors (SPRDs), also measure the energy spectrum of radiation to identify the radionuclide present.
