The Department of Homeland Security’s (DHS) Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) and Science and Technology Directorate (S&T) will host a May 16 Industry Day to introduce and answer questions from industry about a new research and development (R&D) funding opportunity to help secure and make resilient critical mobile communications networks.
As announced on April 22, 2019, in a Broad Agency Announcement solicitation on FedBizOpps.gov, a Secure and Resilient Mobile Network Infrastructure (SRMNI) R&D project will be established within S&T’s Mobile Security R&D program.
This program is seeking innovative approaches and technologies to protect legacy, current and 5G mobile network communications, services and equipment against risks identified in the DHS Study on Mobile Device Security. The study also called for the development of public-private partnerships to cooperatively develop voluntary mobile security standards and best practices to help protect the confidentiality, integrity and availability of U.S. government communications.
During the SRMNI Industry Day, senior CISA and S&T leaders will discuss the importance of securing mobile network infrastructure for government communications and introduce the new R&D funding project. Time will also be set aside to answer questions from potential project proposers, ranging from mobile security leaders and experts from the private sector to academia. The CISA and S&T leaders expected to participate are:
- Mary McGinley, S&T Division Director, Physical and Cyber Security
- Vincent Sritapan, S&T Portfolio Manager
- Mark Kneidinger, CISA National Risk Management Center Deputy Director
- Robert Dew, CISA Emergency Communications Division, Senior Technologist Advisor
