DHS S&T Guest Speaks on Prepare Respond Recover Podcast

Don't Miss S&T on the Prepare, Respond & Recover Podcast. Available Now! On October 19, S&T’s David Alexander will be a guest speaker on the Prepare Respond Recover podcast, hosted by Natural Disaster & Emergency Management – NDEM. Hear how S&T is investing in research, development and innovation (RD&I) to help communities nationwide reduce risks and build resilience in the face of natural disasters, including floods, wildfires, droughts and extreme heat conditions.

To Build Back Better and ensure the nation is equipped with the right capabilities to address emerging threats from natural disasters, S&T is turning RD&I into action to help security operators prepare and train for natural and human-induced disasters and process large data sets to help communities become more agile, responsive, and adaptive to new threat environments. Ensuring the country is prepared for and can adapt to what comes next requires people and technology working together. This podcast episode will address how S&T is leveraging cutting-edge resources from five national labs, ten Centers of Excellence, and seven research tech centers to help governmental and business officials avoid surprises, calculate risks, and enhance prediction and preparedness capabilities.

This podcast conversation serves as a timely reminder on why S&T is a federal governmental research leader for conceptualizing, developing, and transferring whole-of-government research and technology investments—as prioritized by the administration, including the bi-partisan Infrastructure bill and U.S. Innovation and Competition Act. S&T’s investments in AI/ML and quantum information systems are enabling the department to scale and transfer technology solutions faster to solve more than one need for our broad mission areas. For example, this podcast will highlight the DHS Cooling Solutions Challenge, an innovative prize competition designed to strengthen the nation’s resilience to climate change and cascading impacts of natural disasters.
