National HBCU Week Conference

September 15-18 | Philadelphia, PA

The Science and Technology Directorate (S&T) is pleased to participate in the Department of Education’s sixth annual National Historically Black College and Universities (HBCU) Week Conference. The event aims to connect HBCU faculty, students and recent college graduates with federal agencies and private organizations.

Visit the S&T outreach station in Franklin Hall, in the Marriott Downtown. Meet representatives from the Diversity, Equity, Inclusion & Accessibility Office, Office of Industry Partnerships, and Office of University Programs to learn more about STEAM careers and other partnership opportunities.

To better serve the mission of the Directorate and supporting innovation, research, and development it is imperative that we draw from the wide variety of backgrounds, viewpoints, lived experiences and skills that the American people have to offer.

The Office of University Programs (OUP) Minority Serving Institutions (MSI) Program provides opportunities that foster and cultivate a diverse university-based research capability and talented workforce and prepares motivated students to launch successful homeland security-related careers. OUP offers several opportunities throughout the year, including paid programs for undergraduate and graduate students, and requests for information and proposals for college and university research programs. These annual, paid internship and fellowship opportunities link students and research teams with homeland security professionals and researchers around the country and are an exciting way to get hands on STEM research experience to supplement one’s academic career.

S&T works with private sector innovators to keep pace with rapid changes in technology and allow DHS to respond to emerging threats. The Office of Industry Partnerships (OIP) engages industry and facilitates partnerships with private sector innovators to find or develop scientific and technological solutions to address the most pressing homeland security needs.

S&T identifies, influences, and leverages private sector innovators with novel ideas and prototypes to accelerate the development and transition of technology solutions to homeland security end-users. 

OIP offers a variety of opportunities for funding and partnership, including requests for information, calls for proposals, and other announcements. View all the open opportunities.
