The DHS Science and Technology Directorate (S&T) will host a Phase 2 Wildland Urban Interface (WUI) Demonstration on June 27, 2023, at the Stafford County Training and Logistics Center in Stafford County, Virginia.
S&T partnered with FEMA IPAWS, Corner Alliance, HAAS Alert, Intellisense, N5 Sensors Inc., and the Virginia Innovation Partnership Corporation (VIPC) to test and prove the hypothesis that technical capabilities currently exist to integrate IPAWS-OPEN with new technologies, such as unattended flood and wildfire sensors that will act as the alert originator, sending alerting information directly into the development of technologies that increase the number of mobile devices that can receive emergency alerts.
The demonstration will seek to enhance alerting capabilities and prove that unattended sensors in the field are optimal as alert originators have the potential to revolutionize the way communities plan and respond to emergencies. This demonstration will incorporate real-world scientific data to show that the next phase of emergency alerting is possible.
This event is open to the media, as well as to responder communities, emergency management personnel, law enforcement, and other specialized groups within the emergency alerting field.
