Horizon scanning is a systematic process through which potential threats, opportunities, and likely future developments can be identified before they come to fruition or reach mass adoption. DHS Science and Technology's (S&T) Tech Scouting and Transition Division (TST) is using this process to find the next wave of technologies for the homeland security enterprise (HSE). As technology rarely stops evolving and advancing, the horizon scanning process is a continuous one. Links to Tech Scouting's horizon scanning efforts are available below.
