DHS S&T hosted the NGFR – Harris County Operational Experimentation (OpEx) December 4-5, 2018, at the Port of Houston in Houston, Texas, in partnership with regional public safety agencies and technology providers. During the OpEx, Houston-area first responders and the U.S. Coast Guard used integrated responder technologies to enhance their mission capabilities in a HAZMAT and mass casualty incident scenario. Together, DHS S&T and responders evaluated how selected DHS-developed and commercial technologies integrated with existing public safety systems using open standards, and how those integrated capabilities enhanced operational communications, increased operational coordination, improved responder safety and augmented situational awareness.
