Video technologies can enhance public safety and security, however there are legitimate concerns that these surveillance capabilities could be misused to recognize and track individuals. The DHS Science and Technology Directorate (S&T) is engaging industry to develop technologies to address public concerns that video surveillance capabilities could be misused for face recognition surveillance. Through the Biometric and Identity Technology Center, S&T will host a Privacy Technology Demonstration, a first- of-its kind event to examine the performance of technologies intended to protect the privacy of individuals by obfuscating or encrypting faces in videos.
